Construction Inspector

Job Summary

RIC is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to perform and coordinate activities pertaining to the construction inspection of assigned construction project(s) in accordance with company policies, civil plan documents, and governmental regulations. An ideal candidate will have the knowledge and skills to operate independently in the field. This individual must be able to identify and report information that relates to construction issues, irregularities in work, or other factors that relate to the project. The candidate is expected to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and maturity as a representative of the company on job sites. Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepares daily inspection reports, measures quantities and calculates pay estimates for assigned projects during construction phase.
  • Provides internal plan reviews for quality control and constructability
  • Coordinates materials testing on assigned projects, keeps material testing log, and review testing reports.
  • Assists in review of shop drawings and submittals for assigned projects.
  • Assists the project manager with performing construction inspections and completing status reports.
  • Coordinates and maintains contact with the project manager and agencies having jurisdiction over the project(s).
  • Consults with the project manager to review project budget and determine the scope of work required.
  • Evaluates contract documents for plan procedures, start and completion dates, and staffing requirements for each phase of the construction project.
  • Inspects project(s) under construction on a regular basis to ensure the work conforms to specifications, budget and schedule. Regularly communicates with the project team regarding project(s) improvement status.
  • Assists the project manager in maintaining and overseeing construction contracts, and change orders as required.
  • Reviews and approves construction estimates pertaining to the construction project(s) for processing and payment.
  • Performs duties in according to specific instruction and standards.
  • Work involves performing several basic engineering and mathematical procedures which require following instructions and guidelines and providing accurate and complete records of that work.

Requirements

  • Current KDOT and/or MoDOT Inspection Certification a plus.
  • Ability to operate AutoCad Civil 3D software not required but a plus.
  • Land survey experience a plus.
  • An attitude and commitment to be an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
  • Work effectively with all internal employees and external client personal.
  • Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law.
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated experience in construction and/or construction inspection of civil infrastructure
  • Ability to interpret construction plans and schedules.
  • Some experience in submittal review and processing.
  • Plan/Detail reading. 
  • Must be physically able to perform tasks such as walking and standing throughout the day
  • Ability to travel to and from job sites.
  • Ability to lift or transport up to 50 pounds if needed.
  • Ability to work in hot or cold weather conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of algebra and mathematics preferred
